I recently graduated from the Master of Genomics and Health where I gained a deeper understanding of clinical genetics/genomic medicine and technologies, and their associated ethical implications. As part of my studies, I completed a qualitative research project exploring the history and evolution of the genetic counselling profession through the perspectives of pioneers in Australia & New Zealand. Building on this, we aimed to understand how the profession might continue evolving in response to emerging biomedical technologies, such as within stem cell science, and the potential for them to provide psychosocial support and health education for patients and families interested in accessing stem cell-based interventions (proven and unproven).
