The first national research community advisory group for people affected by childhood deafness in Australia.

Family engagement is a crucial element in health research as it helps to ensure that research is designed with the needs and perspectives of those with lived experience.

Together with families, we have established an Australian Childhood Deafness Research Community Advisory Group, the first of its kind in Australia.

About our Community Advisory Group

The aim of this group is to strengthen partnerships between families and researchers working in childhood deafness around Australia and ensure the voices of those with lived experience are being valued and heard.

This group is guided by principles including:

  • Acknowledging and appreciating community expertise, knowledge, perspectives and needs
  • Ensuring systemic respect for family engagement through formal means
  • Ensuring equitable inclusion, such as remuneration, accessibility, terms of reference, familiarisation and training, and formal recognition of research outputs.

Our Community Advisory Group is supported by a National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) grant for the Australian National Child Hearing Health Outcomes Registry (ANCHOR)
